Benefits of Using Bona Floor Lacquer for Hardwood Floors

Our expert customers that fit reclaimed flooring for a living have shared valuable insights on the benefits of using Bona floor lacquer to protect and enhance hardwood floors. Here are the key advantages:

Durability and Protection

Scratch-Resistant: Bona lacquer provides a tough, protective surface that resists scratches, scuffs, and wear

ideal for high-traffic areas. However, it’s worth noting that repairing scratches on lacquered floors can be more challenging than on those finished with hard wax oil.

Moisture Protection

Bona lacquer offers excellent protection against spills, moisture, and daily wear, making it particularly suitable for kitchens and living rooms. In this regard, products like Bona Traffic HD offer an edge over hard wax oils.

Enhanced Appearance

Variety of Finishes: Available in high-gloss, satin, or matte, Bona lacquers allow you to achieve the desired aesthetic, whether you prefer a glossy shine or a more natural matte look.

Grain Enhancement

While the lacquer highlights the natural beauty of wood by enhancing its grain, hard wax oils may have a slight advantage in this aspect as they penetrate the timber more deeply.

Eco-Friendly

Water-Based Formula: Bona’s water-based lacquers emit fewer VOCs (volatile organic compounds) than solvent-based alternatives, making them safer for indoor use.

Low Odour

Thanks to its water-based composition, Bona lacquer has a low odour, offering a more pleasant application process compared to the stronger scent of hard wax oils.

Ease of Application

Fast Drying: With relatively short drying times, Bona lacquer allows for multiple coats to be applied in a single day, significantly reducing project downtime.

Easy Cleanup

Its water-based formula also makes cleanup simple—just soap and water.

Long-Lasting Results

UV Resistance: Bona lacquer protects against UV damage, preventing fading in sunlit areas.

Durability: When properly maintained, Bona lacquer offers long-lasting protection, lasting for years without reapplication.

Versatility

Residential and Commercial Use: Bona lacquers are durable enough for both home and commercial environments, including retail stores and offices.

Non-Yellowing Formula

Maintains Clarity: Bona lacquers are known for their non-yellowing formula, ensuring that your wood retains its natural colour over time—unlike some oil-based finishes.

Bona floor lacquer is a good choice for long-lasting protection and enhancement of wooden floors, offering durability, environmental safety, and aesthetic options.
